I wanted to start off this adventure with a small but important thing:
YOLO! carpe diem. Before I left for BiSC I had a lot of trouble waking up in the morning; I would need 9-10 hours of sleep every night and still not be able to open my eyes in the morning. That pattern led to a lot of not washing my hair, not paying attention to the clothes I was wearing (resulting in a VPL one day; totally unacceptable), and generally feeling icky and rushed.
I knew that ish was not going to fly for my month.
I mean, how much could I get done if I was busy sleeping all the time?
So I set my alarm for 7 AM and told myself that I was going to get up and not hit the snooze button. Something inside me said, "Yeah, right. You've tried this a million times before. It's not going to happen."
WELL GUESS WHAT, ANGRY LITTLE SOMETHING INSIDE ME? IT DID HAPPEN. SO GO AWAY.
I instinctively slapped at my iPhone until the marimba stopped, but the happier side of that something inside of me said "Hey, you, get up."
Thank you, happier side.
I got up. I did not hit snooze. I took an extra long shower and shaved my legs, and I put lotion on, and I used the real actual blowdryer on my hair, and I put makeup on before I left the house. I got to work early and grabbed a croissant from the cafe downstairs before I went up to my office.
What a great way to start off a Friday, the month of June, and this most excellent adventure.
